The brief
Currant runs 3,800 fast chargers across the Netherlands and Belgium. The hardware was good. The app wasn't believed.
Drivers opened it, saw a green pin, drove ten minutes and found a broken plug, a queue or a price that changed at the screen. Ratings sat at 2.9. Currant asked us to rebuild the app, and its brand, around a single promise: what you see is what you get.
What we found
1 in 5charging sessions began at a plug that was broken, occupied or slower than shown.
Status was a guess
Pins were green if the charger had pinged in the last 24 hours. We wired the map to live session data instead.
Price arrived last
Idle fees and roaming surcharges appeared on the receipt. We moved the full price to the first card.
Starting took six taps
Drivers stood in the rain with a cable in one hand. We made plugging in the only step.
One journey, five screens
From the map to the receipt, every screen answers the question the driver has right then.

How was charger 3?
An interface you can read with a cable in one hand
Big targets, one decision per screen, and type that survives sunlight. We tested every screen outdoors, at chargers, with drivers who had somewhere else to be.

A brand built from the plug up
Blackcurrant for trust, volt yellow for action, and nothing in between that could be mistaken for a status. The same tokens run the app, the charger screens and the stickers on the posts.

“They found three problems in our charging flow that our own data team had missed for a year. Then they fixed them in the same sprint.”
