We buy books every weekday morning, from a single paperback to a whole house. Most of what is on our shelves came in through the front door in somebody’s box.
Three steps and a cup of tea. Usually over in half an hour.
Bring them in
Up to two boxes, Tuesday to Friday, 10am till noon. No appointment, just come to the till. Bags for life are fine, bin bags make us sad.
Have a tea
We go through every book while you wait, usually twenty minutes. You are welcome to browse, most people leave with something.
Take an offer
One offer for the lot: cash, or a quarter more in shop credit. No haggling, no hard feelings, and anything we can’t use goes back in your box.

- Older hardbacks, with or without jackets
- Bristol and West Country history, maps and guides
- Poetry, plays and small-press books
- Children’s books with pictures, the more worn the better
- Anything with a good story in the margins
Textbooks, encyclopaedias, Reader’s Digest and magazines. We know where to take them, so you don’t have to carry them home.

Clearing a house, or a study that took forty years to fill? Send us a few photos of the shelves. If it looks like a match we come to you, anywhere within an hour of Bristol, and we bring the boxes and carry them out.
We are used to doing this gently. Often it is the books of someone who has died, and we will take our time.
How do you work out the price?
Roughly a third of what we think we can sell it for, less for anything that will sit on the shelf for years. For anything we think is worth more than £100 we tell you what it is and, if you like, where else you could take it.
Do you buy signed copies and first editions?
Yes, and we are happy to just look at them. If it needs proper research we keep a photo, not the book, and call you within a week.
Can I just give you books?
Of course. Anything we can’t sell goes to the Bristol book bank or to the pound trolley, never to landfill.
Can you pay by bank transfer?
Yes, for anything over £50. Cash for smaller amounts, straight from the till.
Will you take damp or mouldy books?
Foxed, yes, that is our name. Mould, no: it spreads to the shelves. We will tell you honestly which is which.
