About Arjun
Arjun was born in Pune and moved to Tromsø at 24 to study Arctic biology, intending to stay for a year. That was in 2011. He now holds a Norwegian guide licence and a small gallery of aurora prints, none of which he sells.
On Nordvik trips he runs an hour of optional night-photography instruction each evening, usually with the same advice: low ISO, wide lens, patience. He is better known by guests for his thermos of masala chai, which has outlasted three camps.
He leads the Lofoten autumn departures and co-guides at Kangerlussuaq.
Minus 28 degrees
His first aurora was at -28 °C on a frozen lake outside Tromsø, in his first winter. He stood for an hour with a borrowed tripod and took 200 frames. Every one of them was blurred.
“The night I learned to leave the camera alone was the night I started to see it,” he says. He still has the blurred frames in a folder named Lesson One.
