Lumen Re has doubled its dedicated radar capacity from two to four satellites. The reinsurer has used radar on Perihel since June 2022 to map flood extent after storms and to match the result against the locations it insures.
With four satellites, a typical basin on Lumen's watchlist is seen every 12 hours in any light and weather. Lumen says the first estimate of insured loss after a storm now arrives the same day.
The extension runs to 2028 and includes two additional ground station passes per day over Europe.
